Mountain Shadows Moon and Lunar Eclipse Viewing Social

  • The Den 12643 14th Avenue South Seattle, WA, 98168 United States (map)

Join The Gilded Caravan for an evening of reflection, fellowship, and celestial wonder beneath the Mountain Shadows Moon, and the accompanying partial lunar eclipse. While traditionally known as the Sturgeon Moon—named by the Indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes for the season when the ancient lake sturgeon was most abundant—this moon has also been called the Ricing Moon, Green Corn Moon, Corn Moon, and Lightning Moon, with each name celebrating the harvests, changing seasons, and rhythms of the natural world. We embrace the name Mountain Shadows Moon to honor our own landscape and indigenous peoples of the PNW, where the lengthening shadows cast across the mountains quietly announce summer's end and autumn's approach.

As the Moon gradually slips into Earth's shadow during the eclipse, we are invited to pause, reflect, and welcome the season of change. Through guided divination, fellowship, and quiet observation of the night sky, we gather to celebrate both ancient traditions and our own, finding meaning in the shifting light, the turning of the seasons, and the community that comes together beneath the same Moon.
