Historically, Marshfield was a small manorial market town at the very southern end of the Cotswold Hills on the border of the counties Wiltshire and Somerset, approximately two leagues north-northeast of Bath and half a day's walk east of Bristol. High Street is the main thoroughfare which runs East-West and forks to either side of the village inn to intersect with the Market Place road. The village manor house is at the north end of Market Place and the parish church, St. Mary's is at the south end. Marshfield has been around for many centuries and was even listed in the Domesday Book as Meresfelde.
